CSN 6 . 1 Cork College of Commerce

The men's soccer team had their first run out of the 2011/12 season today with a friendly against Cork College of Commerce. The game was played on a perfect grass surface at Tramore rd. A special mention to Daniel Crowley and his green keeping students who have done outstanding work on the playing pitches in the college over the past number of years. Students and management appreciate the work carried out by the green keeping students on a regular basis, and this enhances the experience students get when representing sports teams for the college.

The game itself was played over three 30min periods, with a total of 30players in attendance for CSN. The first period finished O.O with Cork College of Commerce creating most of the opportunities, only to be denied by some fine defending by Trevor Bateman and Peter McCarthy. Lloyd O Sullivan also created a good shooting opportunity after a great run from half way only to unselfishly square the ball which was intercepted by a defender.

The second period saw a much more experienced CSN convert chances, with striker Danny Roche the first to get on the score sheet, followed by defender James Furlong from a set piece and Ross Kelleher finishing off a fine move that involved Gareth Cambridge, David Stack and Danny Roche. Sean Holland gave a fine display in the middle of the park, while Ross Condon created a number of chances for himself only to be denied by fine goalkeeping. CSN completed the period 3.0 up.

CSN added a further 3 goals in the final period, after Lloyd Dorgan grabbed a brace and Kenny o Leary added salt to the wounds with a 20yard drive to beat the keeper. Connie Murphy pulled one back for the College of Commerce to end the game 6.1. While the scoreline reads well, a lot of work will be required for the team to compete in Premier South commencing next Wednesday where John Cauldfields UCC (Collingwood Cup Champions 2011) will be the visitors to Tramore road at 4pm.
