CSN 3 V 4 DIT The mens soccer team were narrowly deated in yesterdays Umbro cup quater final at home to Dublin Institute of Technology. As the rain hammered down for the afternoon kickoff, DIT boasting 3 Irish college players took the lead within 15mins after some poor defending by CSN. DIT added a second before half time, before Kenny O Leary pulled one back for the home side. And more drama followed after CSN were awarded a clear penalty just before the end of the first half. Shane Spitere stood up and struck it however it was saved by the DIT keeper. Within minutes of the restart DIT were 3.1 up after again poor defending saw their centre forward 'Tiger' get his hat-trick. CSN never gave up and a spirited performace in the second half saw them overhaul DIT in every position. It was not long before the again impressive Kenny O Leary Struck to make it 3.2. However on the counter attack DIT struck yet again making it 4.2. CSN made a number of substitutions and went with 3 at the back. What followed was amazing when Kenny O Leary rounded the keeper only to be hacked down by him before slotting the ball into an empty net. CSN recieved another penalty, the amazing part is how the keeper only recieved a yellow card from referee Larry Buckley. Dean Grainger took the spot kick and drived it home to set up an exciting final 5 mins. In that time CSN hit the post, and had another good opportunity to equalise. However DIT held out and will progress to the Semi final. It has to be said that the perfect playing surface at tramore rd allowed both teams play fast attrative football, however indivudal errors and poor defending led to the defeat. Performances from James Furlong, Michael Doody and Kenny O Leary were excellent on the day.
